Apple Picking Time in Accord, NY

Every year "Our Family" goes "Apple Picking". It is a bit of a tradition. I think we've been going since "Forever".



This year we headed out a little earlier than normal. We went "Apple Picking" in early September. Every year we go to Stone Ridge Orchards.


The only apples we could pick that weekend were McIntosh.


The first try the apples came raining down & hit us in the head.

Cure for a Mid-Life Crisis...Aren't Older Women Great???

Everyday my sister, Lorraine, sends me emails with jokes, chain letters, etc. Today I opened one of her emails and I thought OMG this is hysterical. I have to share it with you...

Subject: Mid-Life Crisis

After being married for 45 years...I took a careful look at my wife one day & said, "HONEY, 44 years ago we had a cheap apartment, a cheap car, slept on a sofa bed & watched a 10" black & white TV, BUT...I got to sleep every night with a hot 21- year-old gal...

Now I have a $200,000.00 home, a $28,000.00 car, a nice big bed & a plasma screen TV, BUT...I'm sleeping with a 63-year-old woman...

It seems to me that you're not holding up your side of things."

My wife is a very reasonable woman.

She told me to go out & find a HOT 21-year-old gal, and she would make sure I would once again be living in a cheap apartment, driving a cheap car, sleeping on a sofa bed & watching a 10" black & white TV.

Aren't older women great???

They really know how to solve your mid-life crisis!!!!!!!!!

Labor Day Weekend...Accord NY

We spent the last Summer Weekend at "Our Family Bungalow" in Accord, NY.

Weather wise...It was an absolutely beautiful weekend. Seventy Degrees "PERFECT" We did all the things that one would do at a campground. All very corny...we loved every minute of it.

Summer in the Country...I Love Accord, NY

OMG Summer is Almost Over!!! Alas Labor Day Weekend is almost here and I'm headed to my "Fav" Spot in the Catskills...Accord, NY. My family has been going there since the early 1970's.

Something earth shattering happened last week...My sister & I had a 2 whole days to ourselves.

We were so happy :) we did a dance...



We got to do what "We Love" to do...SHOP. Not your ordinary Mall, Target type shopping...Vintage Shopping...We had a ball & we took lots of pictures.

Road to Recovery...Life After Cancer

In Life Remember to...Take Time to Smell the Flowers...

Hello Everyone,

It's been awhile since I posted anything.

Sometimes "Life" throws you a curve ball and you become very busy.

I wish I could say with happy, fun things but, unfortunately, my Mom has the dreaded "C" word "Cancer". My Mom was diagnosed at the end of January with rectal cancer. Needless to say this was something my family and I were not prepared for. My Mother is a 73 years young.

She had surgery on June 29th 2009 and she is doing well. My Grandmother had the same type of cancer some 25 years ago, so I guess this runs in my family. When my Grandmother had her operation back in 1982, they did surgery first and then chemo & radiation. She only had radiation before and did not need chemo. With my Mom they did radiation (tomotheraphy) first in conjunction with chemotherapy for 5 weeks. She then rested for 7 weeks. This allowed the tumor to shrink from the size of a small orange to the size of a walnut. This makes it easier for the the surgeon to remove the tumor. Unfortunately, when you have rectal surgery it is very had for the surgeons to save the rectum. Most people have to have a colostomy bag. Like our surgeon said..."This is not the end of the world." 

So now my Mother is recovering...I spent all of May planting around her house. I knew there probably wouldn't be trips to the country or the beach this Summer. I wanted to make my Mom's yard her "Oasis" during her recovery. It is only the beginning of July & the flowers are starting to finally grow. Unfortunately, my flowers are a little behind in growing. In June, we had alot of rain here in NYC. I think it rained something like 24 days out of 30 in June. My flowers were shouting "SUN.....PLEASE"!

Today was a beautiful day and so I took some pictures of my Mom's yard...
